Over the weekend, I decided to take a look at some pointers on submitting short stories. I ran across two articles that put the focus on your email address.
The main point in the first article was your user name. I would think it would be common sense not to use hornydog@hotmail.com for submitting work to a publisher. The article made me think that maybe it's not common sense. You want your user name to be professional not personal.
The second article had not occurred to me. Its focus was on which email account you used. It suggested not using free email like Hotmail and Yahoo. If your own domain is not available, it suggested using Gmail. Now I wonder does it really matter.
Will an editor turn down your work because of your email address? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

I found your blog through a link at Iggy U and enjoy your content.
To answer your question, I agree with the first point in that you should present yourself in a professional manner when dealing with editors, agents, and anyone else in the pub industry as far as that goes. I keep a second email account for all correspondence with industry professionals.
However, I must disagree with the later point. If an editor will turn down a submission based solely on the emails point of origin, then I would have to say the publishing industry is on a slippery slope of losing all credibility.
I do agree that your email should be professional, because as a writer you want to be taken seriously. I don't think it should matter if you are using a free email account or not. I'll have to stop back and see what others have to say on this subject.
As an editor for a small ezine, whether it's a yahoo email account or gmail or something else, it doesn't mnake a difference.
darksculptures, I'm curious as to what Iggy U is. I googled it but not really finding what I'm looking for.
Thank you for visiting. I'm glad you enjoy the content. I also appreciate you leaving a comment. I do agree.
Susanne, Always great to hear from you.
Terry, Thank you very much for leaving your professional opinion. It is greatly appreciated.
I have to agree that for correspondence to those who do matter, agents, publishers and the like, a more professional sounding/reading email will show you are serious. I have a seperrate email for such correspondence because I didn't think "gfarkgirl" would show I was serious enough. However, I have to agree that if Editors, Agents, etc. reject a submission based soley on your email addres, they're just a plain a$$ if that's all they reject you for.
Connie, Thanks for stopping by and following. Yes, I do agree. The email shouldn't matter, the decision should be based on your work.
