Save My Job at USPS

I know this is off topic for this blog, but I felt the need to voice my thoughts on this subject.

I am an RCA for the post office. My job is to fill in for a regular carrier during her days off. A RCA is guaranteed one day per week. As I'm sure you've all heard the post office is considering dropping down to five day delivery. The postal service isn't totally sure how they will work the system out, but it would definitely be the end of most of the substitute's jobs.

The cause of this is low mail volume. In my opinion, the reason for this is the internet. We now have email and online bill paying options.

I am as guilty as the next person of not using the postal services as much as I have in the past. If each person was to send out one letter a week, or even a month, can you imagine how much mail that would accumulate to be.

Help save the postal employee jobs. Reach out to loved ones. Send them a personal letter once a month. Forty-four cents could save my job.

Actually, I still do use the USPS quite often. Sorry if I'm old fashioned, but a card or actual letter has more meaning to someone than an email or a text message. Actually sent a letter today. It'll probably get to Texas Wednesday or Thursday.

Really, 44 cents isn't a great deal if you're sending a letter down the street. But if you're sending the letter out of state, it is.

My father kept every letter, birthday and Christmas card his children sent him. Sentimental value. Emails? I don't think they carry such.

Just my two cents.

Thank you for your two cents and for being old fashioned.

Also, I'm know alot of people do use the postal services, lol, I pick up outgoing mail everyday.

I appreciate you for contributing to my job.

God Bless.

Just letting you know, like Terry above, I too am the old fashioned type. I pay all my bills through the mail. I refuse to pay them online. That would mean I'd have to store away yet another password and another login and I've already got enough of those.
You bring up an interesting thought though regarding doing things the old fashioned way... similar to paper mail versus electronic mail is the printed books versus electronic books issue. I'll never go that way. Just adding my two cents worth. Hope it works out for you.

Don,

I totally agree with you on the books. There's nothing like holding a book within your hands.

Thanks for using the postal service. I appreciate the support.

As I thought about this, Cher Green, I figured that it also is similar to a post at my blog a a week or so back about supporting employees: http://uparoundthecorner.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-philosophy-of-supporting-employees.html

Yes, I agree. Most jobs seem to rely on others. Even as a writer, we depend on readers. In a way, we are all connected in some little way. It's a shame that most of society feels alone. When in truth, we are all in this together.
